Sholinganallur's Abandoned Pond and Park: Residents Left Feeling Unsafe

In Sholinganallur, close to the Ponniamman Kovil on 1st street, lies a once-loved spot - the temple pond. which is the pond of Ponniamman Temple But now, it's been left alone for far too long. Covered in thick green algae, it's no longer the peaceful place it used to be. Kids used to love paddling around in little boats, but now it's not safe at all. Right beside the pond is a park meant for kids. It used to be a lively place, filled with the sounds of laughter and play. Swings swung high, and slides echoed with joy. But now, it's sad to see. The swings are rusty, and the slides sit empty. What's worse is that some people come here to drink, making it a place families avoid.

This isn't just happening here. Even in nearby places like Navalur, the story's the same. It's not just about the looks. It's about how people feel. These spaces are supposed to be for everyone, but they make residents feel uneasy and unwelcome. Women, especially, are afraid to go there because of the drinkers, which isn't fair at all.

We need action, and we need it now. The local government must step up and take care of the pond and park, making sure they're clean and safe. It's their responsibility to make sure everyone feels comfortable using these spaces. And we all need to do our part to make sure these spaces are places we can all enjoy again. It's time to bring back the life to Sholinganallur's forgotten spots, making them places we can all be proud of.
